Roggero y Urquiza, Esquel, Chubut, Argentina
The Tronchita is a small historic steam train that runs along an impressive stretch of the Patagonia region of Argentina, more precisely in the province of Chubut. Its route of approximately 400 kilometers connects the city of Esquel with the small town of Ingeniero Jacobacci. This narrow-gauge train was inaugurated in 1945 and, although it no longer fulfills its original function of cargo transport, it is still a tourist attraction.
Along its route, La Tronchita crosses spectacular landscapes of the Andes Mountains, vast Patagonian steppes, and lenga and ñire forests, which gives it a unique character. The train, consisting of a steam locomotive and restored wagons, moves slowly along narrow tracks and stops in small villages, allowing passengers to enjoy the scenery and learn more about the history and culture of the region.
