Ejército Argentino y Etcheluz, Zapala, Neuquén, Argentina
The Provincial Museum of Natural Sciences "Professor Juan Olsacher" (MOZ), located in the city of Zapala, province of Neuquén, Argentina, is a regional benchmark in the research and preservation of natural heritage. Founded in 1949, this museum is named after the prominent German geologist Juan Olsacher, who carried out important studies in the region.
The MOZ specializes in the geology and paleontology of the Patagonian region, offering a rich collection of fossils dating from the Paleozoic to the Cenozoic period. Among its most outstanding pieces are fossils of ammonites, petrified trunks, and remains of dinosaurs, such as Neuquensaurus, a sauropod that inhabited this area more than 70 million years ago.
The museum also houses a valuable mineralogical and petrographic collection, which includes representative samples of Neuquén's geological wealth, such as obsidian, quartz, and various volcanic formations. These exhibitions allow visitors to learn about the geological complexity of the Andean region and its relationship with natural history.
