Feel the Adventure

At Chollinco Estate, we slid along an intrepid zip line over the Calcurrupe River. An amusing way to make contact with nature.

In the district of Llifén, in the Community of Futrono, lies Chollinco Estate. This exquisite site, located in the exuberant Valdivian Forest, has cozy and comfortable cabins for a safe stay. The estate has everything necessary to have a good time: a club house that offers visitors dining-room and bar service in a pleasant family atmosphere; a swimming-pool surrounded by colorful natural gardens, and a vast spacious venue that enables guests to enjoy countless activities related to the Calcurrupe River, rural tourism, adventure travel and excursions in the mountain range environment. Here, Miguel Proboste –its owner– has developed, along with adventure travel specialists, an amusing zip line circuit across the rainforest surrounding the estate. With safety, reliability and responsibility with the environment, visitors may see what nature has to offer in this enigmatic region of Chile.

Without hesitation, we accepted the invitation to fly amidst the canopies as if we were birds. Thus, we met Carlos Sánchez and Victor Ríos, two zip-lining guides. With great professionalism, they gave us all the support we needed to feel safe and protected. After a lecture on safety, in which we were explained the posture and the way to measure the intensity and speed of the zip line, we began to gain height above one of the hills where the first platform is located. Once on the first test line, the “Chollinco Canopy Tour” began. By then, adrenaline was the protagonist. This zip line is made up by over 1,600 meters of wire. There are 9 platforms and 8 spectacular stretches across mounts, forests and rivers. As well, this place lodges the longest jump in Chile, which reaches 400 meters of length.

We felt the adventure at each of the platforms. The speed and vertigo we gained in the various stretches of the line turned into a feeling of absolute freedom. The wind on our faces, the roar of the water under our feet and the inner joy to have dared to such ordeal will remain in our memories. Lines 5 and 7 were breathtaking for us; whereas 8 and 9, which cross the crystal-clear waters of the Calcurrupe River, are ideal to become aware of the surroundings we were visiting. All in all, we took an hour and a half to tour around the circuit. It was one of the best investments we could have made during our visit to the area. It would be redundant to give more details.
