Chubut is the southernmost wine region in the world. Several ventures defy geographical and climatic boundaries to produce wines of character and personality. Among them, Cielos de Gualjaina produces some of the most exquisite wines that already transcend the limits of the province and offers tours and tastings.
Shaping a region and a wine that adds up to points
The family winery Cielos de Gualjaina is located in the area of chacras, 4.5 kilometers from the town of Gualjaina, between the watercourses of the Lepá River and the Pescado stream. The scenery is characterized by a semi-arid climate, with important thermal amplitudes, cool summers and winter frosts. The alluvial soils with volcanic ashes give the land unique qualities for production.
The project is led by Mariano Miretti and María Alejandra González, who not only make excellent wines, but are also shaping the future of the region. Since their arrival in 2010, this couple of teachers set a bold challenge: to integrate winemaking into the social and economic fabric of the area.
With varieties such as Chardonnay, Merlot and Gewürztraminer, the wines of this winery are the expression of an authentic drink from Patagonia. With a passage through French oak barrels and some bolder trials, these wines promise and deliver a sensory experience for those who have the privilege of tasting them.
Chardonnay Gewürztraminer is the star wine recognized by international critics, scoring points and revealing an incomparable complexity of spices and perfumed flowers. Its versatility goes well with oriental cuisine, the most elaborate vegan dishes and Patagonian lamb.
With a limited production, the family winery is characterized by agroecological management and palpable passion at every stage, from vineyard care to winemaking. Its expanded infrastructure offers a complete sensory experience, from tastings and wine pairings to walks through the vineyards and along the river. The wine tour highlights the natural beauty of Gualjaina and the entrepreneurial spirit in the "oasis" of the Central Plateau that brings exquisite flavors to the Chubut wine route.
In a joint effort, Cielos de Gualjaina and other producers receive support from INTA and its Cambio Rural program to raise the quality and prestige of Chubut wines.
