Quilque Lil Urban Nature Reserve

The Quilque Lil Urban Nature Reserve is a bastion dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity and the safeguarding of local heritage in Aluminé. It was created with the mission of documenting the natural and cultural history of the region, as well as promoting environmental education and fostering local development through ecotourism and a commitment to sustainability.

Environmental education and connection with nature

In 2020, the enactment of the ordinance protecting the Quilque Lil hill area marked a significant milestone in safeguarding the environment. The Urban Nature Reserve is a public space with free and open access administered by the Municipality of Aluminé.

The geological history of the area reveals that 18 million years ago, the protected area and the present town of Aluminé were part of a lush Valdivian forest. The petrified logs found in Poi Pucón, Epu Pehuén, Barrera Lagoon and Quilque Lil are a tangible testimony of the evolution of the landscape over time.

Within this region of Neuquén, the Quilque Lil Urban Nature Reserve is a favorite destination for hikers, whose viewpoints allow them to contemplate the Aluminé River valley. The strategically placed signage, with information on viewpoints, plants and animals, facilitates orientation and guarantees an enriching and safe experience.

The Public Use Area team works in the planning, design, creation and maintenance of trails and signs, as well as in specific tasks related to conservation, ecological restoration, monitoring, supervision and environmental education. Their constant commitment to each project reflects their love for the work they do, which makes Quilque Lil a place where respect for nature is manifested on a daily basis.

Nature reserves not only safeguard fauna and flora, but also serve as living classrooms for environmental education. These spaces offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the importance of conservation, the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the fragility of the natural balance. Through educational trails, guided tour programs and interactive activities, the reserves foster a deeper connection between people and nature, inspiring greater respect and appreciation for our environment.
