Birdlife and trails in a protected environment
Jahuel Las Grutas is an ecotourism venture that offers a unique experience of nature observation and fascination for birds in their natural habitat. From the first step upon arrival, you can perceive the care dedicated to take care of the environment of beaches and steppe. The protection of the habitat of more than 40 species of migratory shorebirds, which cross hemispheres on their journey, reflects a deep respect for biodiversity. A marked trail leads to the sea and a lookout point offers views of the blue landscape and the beaches where migratory birds congregate.
Bird watching in their natural environment seeks to minimize environmental impact and contribute to the preservation of ecosystems. Jahuel Las Grutas accompanies this experience with guided tours. The destination is also enriched with a farm and a site museum. A pink house that exhibits original pieces of the sea, stones, looms, everyday objects and arrowheads of the Tehuelches, connecting with the environment, the native peoples and the ancient rural dwellers.
Among the predominant flora is the jarilla, a shrub abundant in the Patagonian steppe that contributes to the character of the landscape and also has healing properties. In the steppe, the jarilla is the shelter of animals such as turtlescuises, which are often seen during walks through Jahuel and cause the curiosity of visitors. Closer to the sea, the junquillo is the protagonist, stabilizing the dunes, a species that extends in the sandy soils from the south of the Atlantic Coast to the Valdés Peninsula.
Along roadsides, alpatacos blend harmoniously into the landscape. Their presence not only beautifies, but also plays vital roles in the ecosystems they inhabit. These species mobilize nutrients and create microclimates that favor the growth of other plants, as well as the well-being of the local fauna.
The sweet culmination of this experience is found in the family confectionery overlooking the gulf to enjoy a tasty snack. Homemade cakes and fried cakes delight visitors. In addition, on Saturdays they offer Patagonian barbecue with previous reservation.
